NOW ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS
Meet the person behind My Spanish Upgrade
If you'd like to get to know me before booking a lesson, this short video is a great place to start. I'll tell you a little about myself, my teaching approach and what makes My Spanish Upgrade different.

From Cartagena to Marple
¡Hola! I'm Patricia, founder of My Spanish Upgrade and a native Spanish tutor from Cartagena, Spain. I now live in Marple, where I teach students across Stockport and also work with learners online throughout the UK.
I've always believed that learning a language should feel enjoyable, encouraging and achievable. Whether I'm helping a GCSE student prepare for exams, supporting an A-Level student with essays and speaking, or teaching an adult who's always wanted to learn Spanish, my goal is always the same: to help every student feel more confident and enjoy the learning process.

People often ask me how I became a teacher, but the truth is that it started long before I realised it could become my career.
As a teenager, I was always helping my younger brother with his homework. Later, I started helping one of my cousins too. One day he told me that he understood things much more easily when I explained them, and that simple comment stayed with me.
It made me realise that helping people understand and gain confidence was something that came naturally. Looking back, that was probably the moment I discovered what I genuinely love doing.
Since then, I've had the privilege of helping students of all ages improve their Spanish, achieve excellent exam results and, most importantly, believe in their own ability.
How I Discovered My Passion for Teaching
Every student learns differently, so I don't believe in one-size-fits-all lessons.
Some students need help building confidence before they can speak Spanish comfortably. Others need to improve their grammar, prepare for GCSE or A-Level exams, or simply become more organised in their learning.
That's why every lesson is personalised. I create my own interactive resources, games and revision materials to make lessons engaging, while explaining grammar and vocabulary in a way that's clear and easy to understand.
Learning Spanish shouldn't feel overwhelming. With the right support, it becomes something students can genuinely enjoy.
My Teaching Philosophy
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing students achieve things they never thought possible.
Over the years, I've helped students improve their confidence, achieve excellent GCSE and A-Level grades and develop a genuine interest in Spanish.
One achievement I'm particularly proud of is that one of my students was awarded first place nationally in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators (Level 3), recognising outstanding translation skills.
Every student's journey is different, but seeing them grow in confidence and achieve their goals is what makes teaching so rewarding.
Celebrating My Students' Success

When I'm not teaching, you'll usually find me spending time with my two cats, who are often convinced they should be helping with online lessons!
I'm also a huge Walt Disney fan, and I actually have a picture of him in my teaching room. What I really admire about him is his mindset — his attention to detail, his creativity, and his belief that even the most impossible ideas could be brought to life with hard work and persistence.
He faced many setbacks throughout his life, including financial difficulties and failures, but he never stopped believing in his vision. That combination of creativity, resilience and dedication is something I find genuinely inspiring, and it's something I try to bring into my own teaching.
For me, teaching is a bit like that too — it's about finding creative ways to explain things, paying attention to each student's needs, and helping them believe that they can succeed, even when something feels difficult at first.
